워싱턴 한인사회에서 한인커뮤니티센터(Korean Community Center) 건립을 위해 기금을 모았거나 관심을 가졌던 단체들이 3월 20일 오후 1시 페어팩스카운티 정부청사에서 샤론 블로바 수퍼바이저 의장 등 카운티 당국자들과 모임을 갖고 향후 계획들을 논의했다.
한인사회 단체장들은 지난 3월 13일 1차적으로 모여 각 단체의 노력을 하나로 뭉쳐 한인커뮤니티센터 건립에 박차를 가할 수 있도록 황원균 전 버지니아한인회장을 간사로 선출했었으며, 이날 비전(Vision)과 미션(Mission) 그리고 원칙(Principles) 초안을 준비해왔다.
이날 모임에서는 한인커뮤니티센터의 비전과 미션 선언문을 확정하고, 원칙에 대해서는 기본적인 사항만 정하고 나중에 더할 수 있도록 했다. 또한, 다음 모임까지 관리(Governance), 회원자격(Membership), 서비스 목적(Service goals), 재정 및 기금모금(Finance/Fundraising), 부지 마련(Finding a home)과 관련해 각 위원회를 조직하기로 했다.
샤론 블로바 수퍼바이저 의장은 "페어팩스카운티 차원에서 직접적인 자금 지원은 어렵지만, 부지 지원 및 조닝변경, 인허가, 재정 지원 정책 등 다각도로 한인커뮤니티센터 건립을 도울 수 있는 방안들을 찾아 적극적으로 협력할 것"이라고 전했다.
페어팩스카운티 당국자들과는 5월에 다음 모임을 갖기로 했으며, 그전에 한인사회 단체장들은 4월 17일(수) 오후 2시 애난데일 소재 워싱턴복지센터 사무실에서 모임을 갖고 세부사항들을 논의하기로 했다.
이날 모임에는 전 버지니아한인회 황원균 회장, 버지니아한인회 홍일송 회장, 워싱턴코리안커뮤니티센터 레이 박 회장과 정세권 고문, 워싱턴지역한인교회협의회 부회장 최인환 목사, 워싱턴한인연합회 데이빗 한 부회장, 버지니아한인회 종합학교 스티브 리 이사장, 워싱턴복지센터 헤롤드 변 이사장과 조지영 사무총장, 미주한인재단-워싱턴 이은애 회장 등이 참석했다.
